šŸ“– Edward Angle's Classification of Malocclusion (1899)
Angle Class I (Neutroclusion)

The mesiobuccal cusp of the maxillary first molar occludes in the buccal groove of the mandibular first molar. Malocclusion presents as individual tooth irregularities, rotations, crowding, or spacing.

Angle Class II Division 1 (Distoclusion)

Mandibular dental arch is posterior to normal. Maxillary anterior incisors are labially flared (proclined), resulting in significantly increased overjet and potential lip incompetence.

Angle Class II Division 2

Mandibular molar relationship is distal, but maxillary central incisors are retroclined while lateral incisors are flared. Characterized by severe deep overbite.

Angle Class III (Mesioclusion / Prognathism)

The mandibular first molar is positioned mesial (forward) relative to the maxillary first molar. Often accompanied by anterior crossbite and reverse overjet.

šŸ”‘ Lawrence Andrews' Six Keys to Normal Occlusion (1972)
1. Molar Relationship: Correct cusp-to-groove intercuspidation with tight distal marginal ridge contacts.
2. Crown Angulation (Tip): Positive gingival-to-incisal crown inclination.
3. Crown Inclination (Torque): Proper labiolingual/buccolingual inclination for anterior disclusion.
4. Absence of Rotations: Arch teeth are free from rotations which occupy excessive perimeter.
5. Tight Interdental Contacts: Zero contact open spaces or diastemas.
6. Flat Curve of Spee: Occlusal plane depth is <= 1.5 mm to ensure optimal space.
